| GENERAL INFORMATION A building permit is required on all carports. Carports are not allowed in the front of a house. Setbacks for carports vary depending if your carport is attached to the house or free standing. If it is attached to the house then more restrictive setbacks apply. Rear setbacks are determined by the subdivision you live in, and the side setbacks are determined by the width of your lot at the building line. If the carport is detached then setbacks are standard five (5) feet from the side property and three (3) feet from the rear property line. PLANS SUBMITTAL REQUIREMENTS A copy of a site plan or your property survey with dimensions indicating the location of the carport on the property. A plan with dimensions indicating how the structure will be built and anchored, along with materials used. INSPECTIONS An inspection is required upon completion of work on metal carports, and before any covering of framing members and then a final inspection FEES AND APPLICATIONS The permit fee for a carport is $30.00 per inspection, and an application must be completed and submitted to the Building Inspection Department at 3901 Main St. Please contact the Building Inspection Department at (972) 412-6125 for additional information |
